Korean Lesson "Five Basic consonants"

Hangul has many consonants but we will start with five basic consonants and work our way from there.

1. ㅇ Is silent with basic vowels.

2. ㅅ Is S. Similar to the "S" in seat.

3. ㄱ Is either G or K depending on the word. Similar to the "K" in lick and the "G" in green.

4. ㄴ Is N. Similar to the "N" in now.

5. ㅁ Is M. Similar to the "M" in moo.

These are five basic consonants that are present in lots of Korean words. Mastering these consonants will help with reading and speaking Korean.

Fun Facts:

A) The Hangul letter "ㅇ" also can make the sound of a "Y" or "ng".

The Korean word 용 is pronounced "Yong".

B) The Hangul letter "ㅅ" at the end of a word makes a "T" sound.

The Korean word 잇 is pronounced "it".

(the "ㅇ" is silent in this case again.)

Next time I'll make some words with the basic vowels and consonants.

Study hard and see you next time.
