Susie Cooper Lamp (Restoring An Old Vintage Lamp)

On November 13th, 2018 I was looking for a new lamp for my family's apartment. I went to a couple second hand thrift stores looking for a cheap five to ten dollar lamp that would light up the room. Instead I found this vintage gem. The lamp was with the other lamps but it was different. All the other lamps had a made in china stamped on them (or stickers) while this lamp was made in England by Susie Cooper. The pattern and materials looked great and the quality was high. I know nothing about lamps but I knew this lamp looked old and cool.

I was worried about the lamp because the light socket and cord were well worn which also showed the lamp had some age to it. However I bought the lamp for about seven Canadian dollars which was a steal of a deal as it included everything even a lamp shade. I was extra careful taking the lamp to my car as the parking lot was icy and I didn't want to slip and break the lamp.

Once I arrived home I got a light bulb and tried the lamp out. To my disappointment the lamp didn't turn on. I tried a new light and plug in and had the same result. I was about to call it quits when I looked up how to rewire a lamp. Within a few minutes I came across some helpful videos and articles that showed it was quite easy to change out the cord and socket. I took out the old socket and cord from the lamp and headed out to buy some new parts.

At the store I bought a lamp kit which was about ten dollars and I picked up a pack of light bulbs for four dollars. At my apartment I watched another video tutorial and built up the confidence to rewire the lamp. It was straight forward and took around ten minutes to finish. The final product is a great addition to my apartment.
Restored Lamp

The lamp gives off a nice glow with the lamp shade. The whole project cost about twenty dollars which is a value as most new lamps run upwards of twenty dollars and are not made in England and are not made with the same quality. The vintage lamp has character and has a new life because of my restoration. My family and I will enjoy this lamp for years to come.
