Pocky vs Pepero

Pocky and Pepero boxes

Pocky and Pepero are two snacks that from the outside look the same. Both Pocky and Pepero are biscuit sticks covered in milk chocolate. Based on appearance alone it could be hard to differentiate the two. However based on Cost, packaging and taste a winner can be found.

Pocky

Pocky is a Japanese snack that has been widely known for years. Numerous anime and movies have included pocky. Pocky is seen by many as the original chocolate covered biscuit snack. Pocky's parent company Glico licenses production to many countries and the chocolate sticks are made throughout the world.

Pepero

Pepero is a South Korean snack that has won some international snack awards and has a holiday in South Korea (Pepero Day). The snack has a cult following around the world but is less popular outside of South Korea. Lotte is Pepero's parent company but most Pepero products are still made in South Korea.

Cost: Pocky vs Pepero (1 Point)

The cost for the snacks is relatively similar but Pepero snacks are somewhat cheaper usually. A box of original Pepero is 47 grams and costs about $1.20 Canadian. A original box of Pocky is 40 grams and costs about $1.50 Canadian. The are both similar in price but being that Pepero is cheaper and does come with more snacks the winner of this round is Pepero.

Packaging: Pocky vs Pepero (1 Point)

Pepero and Pocky both come packaged in a foil bag that is covered by a thin cardboard packaging. The Pocky box empathizes the snacks with the Pocky logo. The Pepero box empathizes the snack, the chocolate, and that it's Korea's number one brand. Pocky goes for simplicity and Pepero goes all out on the advertising. The inner foil bag for Pocky is clean white with the Pocky logo. The Pepero foil bag is red with a Pepero logo printed on it. The Pepero foil bag does look more sleek and clean. This round goes to Pepero as the box describes the product well and the foil bag is immaculate.

Taste: Pocky vs Pepero (1 Point)

Here lies the true battle both snacks can look great and have a great value but nothing matters more than taste. Pocky comes out swinging with its original chocolate biscuit while Pepero comes out as an underdog. The Pocky biscuit tastes great and buttery which accents the chocolate well. The Pocky chocolate tastes smooth with a bit of bitterness. The biscuit and chocolate go hand in hand with each other and make the whole experience a great one. Pepero on the other hand has a slightly bigger biscuit stick that provides an almost similar flavour but the chocolate tastes a bit more milky and sweet. Pepero doesn't have that bitterness that Pocky had. The main difference is Pock is more bitter with a more slender biscuit. Depending on your tasted both snacks are delicious. A clear winner can't be found in the taste. If you like bitter chocolate go with pocky but if you like sweet chocolate go with Pepero.

Overall: Pocky vs Pepero

The overall winner is Pepero because it offers a better value and has a more appealing package. Based on tastes it is a overall draw and depends on the snackers tastes.
